Grants are now available through the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program (ODWSP) via your local Conservation Authority. Available Funding for Early Action Source Protection Plan Development Has StartedThe Raisin-South Nation Source Protection Region has begun to develop the Drinking Water Source Protection Plan for this region. As a result of the Ontario Clean Water Act, communities in the province of Ontario are required to develop Source Protection Plans in order to protect their municipal sources of drinking water. These plans identify risks to local drinking water sources and develop strategies to reduce or eliminate these risks. It is everyone's responsibility to protect our water resources consequently broad consultation throughout the development of these source protection plans is important. The process involves municipalities, conservation authorities, property owners, farmers, industry, businesses, community groups, public health officials, and first nations communities.

What is Source Water? Source water is the raw water that we take from lakes, rivers or underground aquifers to supply people with drinking water. The goal of Source Water Protection is to protect these sources of drinking water from contamination and overuse, now and into the future. The Ontario Clean Water Act (Bill 43) requires municipalities and stakeholders to work together to develop watershed-based Source Protection Plans. These plans will focus on protecting the source water that supplies municipal drinking water systems. Water Droplets On Leaf - photo by Keelan O'Flaherty of Tagwi Secondary School
